The heads of state and government of the NATO countries decided at their summit in London to increase the combat readiness of their troops. This will make it possible to strengthen the presence of the Alliance in specific regions in an emergency, said NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday.

"Today we have confirmed a new initiative to increase the readiness of our forces … The resolution aims to increase the fighting ability of our troops," he said.

According to Stoltenberg, the allies made a commitment to mobilize 30 battalions, 30 aircraft squadrons and 30 warships within 30 days in an emergency. It was also decided that NATO's defense budget for the year 2024 to increase to 400 billion US dollars and to increase it further.

"We will focus on providing at least two percent of gross domestic product (GDP) for defense," Stoltenberg said.

The $ 400 billion budget is unprecedented. That will only make the Alliance stronger, stressed the NATO chief.
