MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Government of Canada will supply the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) with six fighters and a frigate in the framework of compliance with the Military Block Disposal Initiative, said the country's prime minister, Justin Trudeau.
"Today I am pleased to announce that Canada will supply six additional fighters and a frigate to the NATO Disposal Initiative," Trudeau said at a press conference held during the Atlantic Alliance summit in London.
He also noted that Canada takes its commitments made before NATO very seriously.
"This contribution is another example of Canada's continued support for the collective security of the Atlantic Alliance," he concluded.
The Disposition Initiative, approved in June 2018, provides that by 2020 the NATO countries will obtain 30 air squadrons, 30 land battalions and 30 combat ships that are ready for use in 30 days.
