Canada to Supply Six NATO Fighter Planes and Frigate "For Initiatives"

Recalling Canada's loyalty to its commitments to the Alliance, Justin Trudeau announced his intention to make six fighter jets and a frigate available to the organization. This contribution is "for the initiatives" of NATO, he added on the sidelines of the summit dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Alliance.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has promised to provide additional armaments to the Transatlantic Alliance. This statement was made on the sidelines of the NATO summit in London, which took place on 3 and 4 December.

Clarifying at a press conference that Canada was serious about its commitments to NATO, he was pleased to announce that his country would be sending six additional fighter jets and a frigate for Nato.

This contribution is another testimony to Canada's steadfast support of the collective security of the Alliance, he added.

Justin Trudeau's cabinet recalled his total contribution, which included "12 CF-18s, an Air Expeditionary Task Force, a Maritime Patrol Aircraft, three frigates, a submarine, a mechanized infantry battalion, a mobile hospital and a platoon specialized in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear decontamination ".

The 70th anniversary of NATO

Many leaders of NATO member countries met on December 3-4 in London, UK to mark the 70th anniversary of the Transatlantic Alliance. The beginning of the summit was peppered with passes of arms aroused by the recent statements of the French President on "the brain death of NATO".
