It is final: the BinckBank Tour will start in Dokkum in the Netherlands next year. It is certainly not the first time that the multi-day stage race starts in the north of the Netherlands. Dokkum will also organize the team presentation and the finish of the opening stage.
The Dutch-Belgian UCI race will start on Monday, August 31, with a 170 kilometer long stage through northeastern Friesland, with start and finish in Dokkum. The peloton will visit several Frisian cities and municipalities en route. Sander de Rouwe, representative of the province of Friesland, is very enthusiastic.
“We see the BinckBank Tour as a great opportunity to promote Friesland as a sports and cycling province. We are once again looking forward to the arrival of a professional platoon, this time on Northeast Frisian roads. ”The mayor of Dokkum, Hayo Apotheker, expects a substantial turnout. “And in the weekend too it will bustle in Dokkum and the rest of East Friesland.”
Race director Rob Discart is happy with a start in Dokkum. “The BinckBank Tour has already started several times in Friesland. We have always been warmly welcomed, both by the municipalities and the public. The Frisians have often shown that they are not only skating, but also cycling enthusiasts. A Grand Depart in Dokkum: it promises to be a big cycling party. ”
The BinckBank Tour has taken the province of Friesland more often as a starting point in recent years. Bolsward, for example, was the setting for the first stage during the 2015, 2016 and 2018 editions. The previous edition of the stage race was won by the Belgian Laurens De Plus. The 16th edition of the BinckBank Tour is scheduled for August 31 to September 6.
