Safadi: Jordan is committed to the peace treaty with Israel


Jordan is committed to a peace treaty with Israel despite the termination of a 25-year agreement that would allow Israel to use two plots of land under Jordanian sovereignty, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said.

This came during a press conference, on Monday, in which he said that his country acted in accordance with the treaty, in terms of non-renewal of the contract on the two areas adjacent to the border, pointing out that this contract gave Israel special rights to its citizens, who work and live in the two areas, according to the agency "Reuters" .

The Jordanian King Abdullah II announced on Sunday that the two annexes of Baqoura and the immersion of the Wadi Araba agreement will be officially completed and impose Jordan's overall sovereignty on every inch of the country.

The Jordanian government decided to close the area of ​​"Baqoura and immersion" to Israeli tourists, starting Sunday, while the Israeli army closed the gate leading to these lands, for the last time on Saturday evening.

King Abdullah II of Jordan, accompanied by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah, arrived Monday in the restored Baqoura area.

A video showed the first moments of the Jordanian king's arrival in Baqoura, noting that the king had prayed there.
