Russian military police occupy the US base near Kobane in Syria


Russian military police took control of an airfield near the Syrian city of Kobane, where a US air base was previously located.

"Our unit has begun to protect the airfield and the territory of the military base," a chief inspector of the military police deployed in this part of Syria told Sputnik.

He already organized patrols around the perimeter of the base. Russian sappers check for explosive objects in the area.

On October 24, the Russian military police settled at a dominant height in the area of ​​that city.

Russia deployed its troops in the area according to the Russian-Turkish memorandum signed at the end of negotiations between the presidents of the two countries, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in the Russian city of Sochi on October 22. The document states that Turkish forces will not be present in the Syrian towns of Manbij and Kobane.
