Chancellor Angela Merkel has described the proposal of a national security council by Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer as the right idea.

Merkel said on Thursday in Berlin on the sidelines of a visit by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that this had been considered within the Union parties for years: But so far it was not possible to anchor this in coalition agreements. In any case, this could help to increase the joint effort.

Kramp-Karrenbauers plan

Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer announced on Thursday her plan to set up a National Security Council in Germany.

This should coordinate the instruments of diplomacy, military, business and trade, internal security and development cooperation, said the CDU politician on Thursday in a keynote address at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich. For this purpose, the Federal Security Council should be further developed.
