Libyan Oil Corporation announces the resumption of production in the polyethylene plant


Libya's National Petroleum Corporation (NOC) announced on Thursday the reopening of the Ras Lanuf petrochemical complex and the resumption of production at the polyethylene plant that has been shut down since 2013.

"Ras Lanuf Oil and Gas Manufacturing Company, a subsidiary of the National Oil Corporation, announces the resumption of production operations at the polyethylene plant today, which has been suspended since 2013," the National Oil Corporation said in a statement on its official website.

The Libyan Oil Corporation confirmed that "the factory, which is expected to have a production capacity of 160,000 tons per year, has been restarted after the completion of the maintenance work, which included the replacement of the burner head of the Holocaust, and comprehensive repairs to various utilities units including sea water intake, water treatment units and desalination units. Power production units, repairs and equipping of cargo units at Ras Lanuf Port and other service units. "

In the long term, Ras Lanuf Oil and Gas Manufacturing aims to export 60 percent of production. The second production line for the PE plant is expected to be operational by May 2020. Other expansion plans include the restart of the ethylene plant, and NOC plans to conduct training courses to upgrade the company's technical skills.
