Fifty percent said they were in Saint-Petersburg stating that "the architecture of St. Petersburg is different from other places in Russia". Tourists said that the city felt European, especially during the FIFA World Cup last year – "in the city center one had the feeling of being abroad".
2nd place: Kaliningrad
More than a third of respondents (34 percent) feel "like in Europe" in Kaliningrad.
One factor of European flair is the Prussian architecture. Some travelers also noted that the mentality of the locals is a bit different, unlike Russia itself.
3rd place: Kazan
Kazan reminds ten percent of respondents to Europe. The city has one sophisticated infrastructureIt is beautiful and well-kept and has modern waterfront promenades and medieval buildings. On the territory of the Kremlin in Kazan, Russian Orthodox churches, a mosque and one of the tallest leaning towers in Europe adjoin one another.
4th place: Yoshkar-Ola
The remaining six percent chose the capital of the Republic of Mari El – Yoshkar-Ola – from. According to a tourist, "the waterfront promenade in the city center looks like a real gingerbread house somehow reminiscent of Amsterdam".
