A US prosecutor announced that Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez received millions of dollars in bribes from drug barons, including Joaquin Guzman, a Mexican drug baron under the pen name 'El Chapo'.

Honduran President Hernandez was accused of taking bribes from drug barons.
Juan Antonio Hernandez, the president's brother and MP, was arrested in November 2018 at the Miami airport by US police on charges of smuggling cocaine and weapons and making false claims.

US prosecutor Jason Richman, said in a statement, "The accused, El Chapo, who received bribes of millions of dollars from drug smugglers was protected by the current president," he said.

Honduran President Hernandez rejected the accusation as 'absurd'.

Hernandez, on his Twitter account, "This is 100 percent fabricated, ridiculous and ridiculous … Alice Wonderland, even less serious," he said.

The prosecution also claimed that Hernandez was involved in the murder of at least two rival drug traffickers in 2011 and 2013.
