Two Lithuanian MPs – Emanuelis Zingeris (Conservative Party Fatherland Union – Christian Democrats of Lithuania) and Simonas Gentvilas (Liberal Movement of the Republic of Lithuania) – have boycotted the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in protest of Russia's return to the organization.

"At the request of Yasko (head of the Ukrainian delegation to the PACE – editor's note), we can not remain indifferent for reasons of solidarity. For this reason, we unanimously decided not to attend the Assembly's autumn session, considering Russia's neglect of international commitments and renewed military aggression, "Zingeris wrote on his Facebook account.

The PACE Autumn Meeting will take place from 30 September to 4 October in Strasbourg. Because of the return of Russia, the new delegation of Ukraine to PACE officially refused to attend this meeting.

PACE return from Russia

In 2014, after the reunification of the Crimea with Russia, the Russian delegation in the PACE was deprived of a number of rights. In response, Moscow had suspended attendance and suspended payments of its membership fees in 2017 on the condition that its powers be restored.
By the end of June 2019, Russia had regained its right to vote in PACE, and the following day, the full powers of the Russian delegation were confirmed.

Kiev tried in every possible way to prevent the PACE return of Russia. The Ukrainian delegation has introduced hundreds of amendments to the draft resolution to restore Russian powers. She also asked that the topic be postponed until later, but her initiative was not supported.
