Iraq on Monday opened its only border crossing with the Syrian side, with the participation of senior officials, from both countries, amid protection and a very large security participation, after a delay and closure for many years.

A member of the Anbar Provincial Council, Eid Ammash Al-Karbouli, said in a statement to Sputnik correspondent in Iraq today that a large delegation of Iraqi officials includes the head of the border outlets, Kazem Al-Oqabi, the governor of Anbar, the director of the province's police, and a large number of troops. The border guards, and the security services there, opened the Al-Qaim-Albukamal border crossing with Syria.

Al-Karbouli added, on the Syrian side, a delegation headed by the Minister of Interior of Syria attended the opening of the outlet between Al-Qaim, west of Anbar, western Iraq, and Albukamal of the Syrian province of Deir Ezzor.

On the re-opening of Al-Waleed border crossing between Iraq and Syria, also from Anbar province, which constitutes only one third of the country in the west, Karbouli told us that this port is suffering from problems, especially from the Syrian side, after being bombed by aircraft about a year or more ago.

Al-Karbouli explained that there will certainly be a tendency towards the rehabilitation of the Al-Waleed border crossing from Iraq and Syria, especially as it was destroyed following the control of the Islamic State terrorist organization earlier in the past years when large areas of the country were under its control. Al-Karbouli confirmed that work is underway to rehabilitate Al-Waleed border crossing in the coming days, but the start of work is not yet known.

Al-Karbouli concluded his speech, appreciating the opening of Al-Qaim-Albukamal port, between Iraq and Syria, which will bring great economic and financial returns to both countries and create great job opportunities.

Gedian explained that the rehabilitation and opening of the border crossing (Al-Qaim-Albukamal) linking with Syria, in western Anbar, western Iraq, has been completed, and the port is ready to receive and leave passengers and trucks.

Gedian noted that the opening of the port will be with the participation of a Syrian delegation, on Monday, after the approval of the Iraqi Prime Minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi, who in turn instructed the head of the border crossing points, to reopen the port with Syria.

He highlighted the gains of the port, Gedian told us, that it will achieve a significant economic gain for the Qaim in particular, Anbar, and Iraq in general, and as a first stage will work on the employment of large numbers.

He continued, and the opening of the port, will work to operate all sectors in the Qaim, restaurants, shops, and is a great opportunity for the judiciary to benefit from trade exchange with the Syrian side.

Gedian continued: "The number of labor is rising in the light of trucks entering through the port, which will need workers to unload their cargo, especially since there is a yard for trade exchange."

At the end of his speech, the mayor of the Qaim district with Syria pointed out an agreement concluded between the Iraqi and Syrian sides that Syrian trucks would unload their cargo in the exchange yard, as would the Iraqi trucks on the Syrian side. Other.
